No-Sew Ideas

Layering Shirt

If the tankini top isn't quite long enough or the neckline (or back) is too low, try this layering t-shirt, which is designed to be worn underneath a swimsuit. It's available from ShadeClothing.com.

Swim Skirt

This cute little swim skirt, available from TheModBod.com, is an easy solution when the legs of your swimsuit are cut a bit too high. (The swim skirt can also be a good option if your tummy isn't as flat as you might like.)

Board Shorts

Board shorts are an easy option when swimsuit legs are cut too high. (They're also great if your tummy isn't as flat as you might like.) Board shorts are readily available in a broad variety of colors and styles. Those shown at the left are from OhanaSwimwear.com.

Low-Sew Ideas

Too-Low Neckline Fix

Here's a quick, simple way to make a swimsuit more modest when the neckline is too low: just sew in a bit of lace at the swimsuit neckline. (For a closeup picture of this tankini top, click here.)

Too-Short Tankini Fix

Here's a quick, simple way to make a swimsuit more modest when you have a tankini top that's too short: just sew a band of fabric around the bottom, on the inside. Cut a strip of fabric about twice as long as you need, sew it into a tube the same width as the tankini top, put it underneath the top (like a layering t-shirt) and stitch in place. (The white in the picture is the add-on.)

Total Tankini Fix

Here's an ingenious fix for a tankini top that's too short and has a plunging neckline. Use a camisole to fix it! Cut a piece from the camisole neckline and stitch in place at the neckline to provide the coverage you need. Cut a piece from the bottom of the tankini and stitch in place to lengthen the tankini top. (The black in the picture is the camisole add-ins.)
